It is unconfirmed whether Pope Leo XIV, has ever visited Medjugorje. Rumours that Pope Leo XIV had visited Medjugorje were mistaken with the visit of Cardinal Fernadez, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of The Faith, who spoke of his brief visit to Medjugorje during the ordination anniversaries, describing Medjugorje as “an environment of prayer and peace”. These exact quotes from Cardinal Fernandez read here reported by the National Catholic Register. 

We do know that Pope Leo has been favourable to Medjugorje pilgrimages.

Reverend Hugo Gabriel Sanchez, a priest from Peru who was recently in Medjugorje and very close to Pope Leo XIV when he was a pope, shares that the Pope was very favourable for priests organizing pilgrimages to Medjugorje. He shares with Croatian Radio Mir, Medjugorje: 
“It was a moment with a lot of emotion, with a lot of joy and a lot of tears. I had already planned to visit him in Rome after the visit and this pilgrimage to Medjugorje, he is a close friend of mine. He headed the Dicastery for Bishops, so I knew about his possibilities and chances of becoming pope.” Fr Sanchez tells Radio Mir. 
“I was in Medjugorje a few days ago and this is the fourth time I have been to Medjugorje, and for the first three times I received permission from the current Pope Leo XIV. I remember that I first came to Medjugorje in 2021 for a pilgrimage. I had to ask the Monsignor for permission because we were still in a pandemic at the time and after two days he called me and said: ‘Hugo, come get your permission, ask for whatever you need and count on me for your pilgrimages to Medjugorje’ . So I had the opportunity to go to Medjugorje four times in a row. The current Pope did not deny the possibility of the Medjugorje phenomenon, in fact he has always been open to priests organizing pilgrimages and spiritual renewals. He was open to Medjugorje, he gave us concessions, especially after the Nihil Obstat,” said Reverend Hugo, who was appointed as a parish priest in Peru after the pilgrimage to Medjugorje by the then Bishop Robert Francis Prevost, and the current Pope Leo XIV.

“I had the opportunity to meet him in my parish. He appointed me as parish priest in 2022, when I returned from my first pilgrimage to Medjugorje, it was the first gift that Our Lady gave me. He visited my parish on the occasion of the distribution of the sacrament of confirmation. He is very kind, he is a close person and approaches everyone with simplicity,” said Reverend Hugo
So Has Pope Leo XIV visited Medjugorje? Until now it appears not, at least nothing is confirmed. Does he support Medjugorje? It seems so! Will he visit Medjugorje… it is highly possible during his pontificate, due to the recent Nihil Obstat and the Papal Envoy who resides there and has the power to invite His Holiness..
